francis, adrienne, and joniIf you're wondering how we are able to accomplish so much ministry among the disabled around the world, it's because we work with great partners. Like Francis and Adrienne Mugwanya who serve in Uganda with Father's Heart Ministry. Francis is a Ugandan wheelchair-user (and a big inspiration to me) and his wife, Adrienne, is Canadian-born (and isn't their little girl a cutie?!). This remarkable couple have a powerful ministry to people with disabilities in Uganda and serve as a hub for our wheelchair and Bible distributions. Take a moment to pray for the Mugwanya family – they are doing...

zachery hollerMeet Zachery Holler and his mother, Kim, who often serves as his interpreter – Zach is a quadriplegic, blind and also deaf; people communicate with him by 'signing' into his hands while mouthing their words close to his face! But all this does not deter him (he earned his degree from Wright State University). Zach heard about our Joni and Friends team in Ohio and asked for help in starting a Disability Ministry at his church in Dayton. Joni and Friends is providing the training, and now, the congregation is fully onboard, rallying around Zachery to make their church accessible and welcoming to special-needs families. Zach's disability may be very challenging, but the Holy Spirit...

I hope you enjoyed a blessed Thanksgiving Day – Ken and I are so grateful to God for all the many good things He bestows! We talk about these blessings and more on this weekend’s edition of The Mike Huckabee Show on the Fox News Channel. The Governor was happy for us to share our faith in Christ on his program, so I hope you’ll tell your family and Facebook friends to tune in. And if you enjoy the interview, then...

joni's front yardAll this week, whenever I've wheeled outside our front door, I see our beautiful crape myrtle tree in its fall foliage. It seems to always pique in blazing color at Thanksgiving, and its fiery red and orange always make me think of Mt. Horeb's flaming bush! Before you know it, I'm singing "Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, all Thy works shall praise Thy Name in earth and sky and sea!" My heart is overflowing with gratitude this week, and Ken and I are so looking forward to sharing Thanksgiving dinner with his sister, nephews, Auntie Aiko, and two neighbor-friends -- we'll also go around the table during dessert and describe all the things for which we thank God. What does our Thursday menu look like? Yes, turkey and all the trimmings, but also lots of steaming hot sauerkraut (a tradition from my German grandmother)! Have a...

November 19 was the big day – Grandpa Gil's 90th birthday. And with the many hundreds of greetings you sent? Believe me, you helped make it happy! His daughter, Bonnie, even sent a message for you; yesterday she wrote, "May God bless every one of you for the kindness you have shown to Dad! His eyes filled with tears and his heart with joy. Thank you so much, so much, so much for all you are doing to make his birthday special. I agree with one of the posts that God will someday say to him "well done, good and faithful servant." I'm convinced the Lord will have this same greeting for you and for all who have responded to Joni's blog and her Facebook page. Please know that my entire family is so grateful to you for blessing Dad with this demonstration of the "incomparable riches of God's grace". May He shower you with those same abundant riches of grace, beyond anything you can ask or even think." And I agree :-).

joni eareckson tadaRecently I videoed a fun message for the boys and girls who visit our Kids’ Corner here on our website. It's all about the Pilgrims’ first Thanksgiving, and how wise is to 'count our blessings.' The KC team has also posted a neat contest – so, take a look-see and tell the children in your life to visit our Kids’ Corner page often. And friend? Start this Thanksgiving week off in the...

joni skyping with students at the idcLast Friday I was home with a bad cold and did not dare venture out with a temperature. I was disappointed that I would miss going to the IDC to speak to students from Azusa Pacific University's "Theology of Suffering and Disability" class. Our IT guys suggested, "Why not Skype?" And so we did. I was able to share my message and, yes, even sing hymns with them. I'm proud of Jesus in these students; they have a heart for disability ministry! The class curriculum is a modified version of our Beyond Suffering material. Want to join in on the learning? Check out our upcoming courses!

Well, you readers of my blog, as well as Facebook friends, really went over the top with your response! It’s so exciting to see 90th birthday wishes to Grandpa Gil from you, my friends all across the US, and even around the world! And tomorrow, Friday, I’m printing everything out, packaging it up, and sending it to Grandpa Gil. I could just picture him tearing up as he reads your words, and shares your encouragements with everyone at the care facility where he now lives. And because Grandpa Gil is such an awesome prayer warrior, I have an idea he’ll be praying blessings over all of you. Thanks again for ‘pulling out all the stops’ on behalf of this dear man. “May the Lord repay you for what you have done” (Ruth 2:12).

Grandpa Gil at Family RetreatGrandpa Gil, as he is affectionately called, has been volunteering as our prayer coordinator for 20 summers straight at the Mission Springs Family Retreat in California. For the first time, Grandpa Gil's failing health this year prevented him from coming to Retreat. He is turning 90 on November 19 and it would mean the world to him to get a birthday greeting from JAF friends. His daughter wrote, "Dad is beginning to get more confused, but several things remain clear and constant: 1) he wants to go to church every Sunday; and 2) he has a deep, passionate love for people...

wear comfortable shoes book coverAs 65 million Americans struggle to care for a sick, disabled, or elderly loved one, the need is greater than ever for experienced leaders to offer practical help to those who care for society's most vulnerable members. With a focus on "those who push the wheelchair," my friend, Peter Rosenberger, draws upon more than 26 years of experience as a caregiver to his wife, Gracie – a car accident crushed her body and she has gone through 73 operations, multiple amputations, 55 physicians, and 12 hospitals. Since November is National Caregivers Month, I wanted to bring this great resource to your attention – it’s got practical tips, Biblical principles, and a smattering of Peter’s outrageous humor, all in order to equip others to survive and thrive as caregivers. So take a look and share the news with your Facebook friends...
