The other night, I read Jesus’ command, "Take up your cross and follow me" and I thought about those words'your cross.' I don't think I could daily take up my cross with confidence did I not first embrace the cross Jesus took up. There is nothing sweet or satisfying to be found in my cross unless I first find satisfaction and sweetness in the cross of Christ -- and if during the day I find myself lacking, then that's a sign I need to spend more time at the foot of Jesus' cross :-).

joni eareckson tada and her assistant francie loreyFor 30 years, Francie has served as my executive secretary at Joni and Friends – but I like to call her “my hands.” Whether it’s researching, writing, or simply typing next to me at the computer (the woman can hack out 107 words per minute), Francie and I work together almost seamlessly. For many years Francie served as my traveling companion; she took me to Family Retreats, Wheels for the World trips, and countless other cities and countries across the globe. I often laugh to her, “You’re one of the few people I know who works as hard as I do!” Because of her strong work ethic and love for Christ, Francie’s quite an inspiration!

Before I say anything else, I’m thrilled at the disabled people and their families who responded to the Good News of Jesus at the recent Wheels for the World outreach in Ukraine and the Wounded Warrior Getaway in Maryland (put on for wounded soldiers by Joni and Friends/Eastern PA and Walter Reed Hospital)! There are other great reports coming in from other events, but these two were on my heart and, hey, when you pray for me through chemo, you get double the blessing – because I add a P.S. to your prayers: “And Jesus, as my blog friends lift me up, make their prayers count for thousands of other disabled people who need your help even more.” So there you go :-)

Early tomorrow morning Ken and I will head to the clinic for my third round of chemo (my friend Careen who is here for the week will be joining us). And when the nurse starts the infusion, Psalm 31:14-15 will be on my lips, “I trust in you O Lord; I say: ‘You are my God. My times are in your hands.’” My time battling this cancer is in His hands -- I can’t think of a safer place to be!

Whether it's the way I sit, or my corset that bites, it can cause terrific pain -- and lying down doesn't always help. Such was the case the night before last when pain made sleep almost impossible. I was the "watchman who waits for the morning," longing for day to break and relief to come.

Deep breathing, they say, is the best thing you can do for pneumonia, so this weekend you'll find me inhaling to the max... counting to five... then slowly exhaling. Many times :-). However, I tend to think singing is also a good remedy -- nothing like stretching your lungs to reach the high notes on  "Breathe on Me Breath of God."

A few things have happened since Ken and I posted our video last week (loved reading your comments) – I had been experiencing some congestion and didn’t think much of it until I had a chest x-ray last Thursday. Before we even got home from the lab, my doctor called: I had pneumonia (no, not from the chemo drugs, but an infection).

The first time I met little Isaiah at our Camp Allen Family Retreat in Texas, I felt as though I were looking into the face of a cherub – I shouldn't have been surprised; Isaiah is a delightful child with Down syndrome...

Last evening Ken and I waved goodbye to my sister, Jay, who was here helping me through my second round of treatment -- my sisters have so beautifully yielded their hands for Christ's service to my husband and I, and they have really helped make this time of cancer treatment 'doable.' I thought you'd enjoy seeing this snapshot of Jay and I right before she headed for the airport :-).
