Dr. Zhang Xu, Judy and Robyn

My longtime friend, Judy Butler (pictured in blue), recently served as a volunteer at our International Family Retreat in China. After the retreat, she and her companion Robyn traveled seven hours on a train to Anshan to visit Dr. Zhang Xu (in the wheelchair). Zhang Xu broke his neck in a diving accident 19 years ago on May 12 — there were many difficult, depressing days but after reading an English copy of the Joni book, he opened his heart to Christ. Now, nearly 20 years later, this man has created Bethesda Rehabilitation Center in his city; Zhang Xu and volunteers from his church also provide practical help to impoverished special-needs families living in the country. Last Sunday, Judy and Robyn worshiped in his church. When I saw this photo, and remembered that May 12 is the anniversary of Zhang Xu’s diving accident, I marveled at all God is doing through this remarkable brother in Christ. Only the Lord could have done this, and it is marvelous in my eyes! Help me honor Zhang Xu’s ‘accident anniversary’ by praying for Bethesda and its outreach. And post him a note of encouragement – I know he’d love to hear from you :-).
