In Memory of Dr. Chuck Musfeldt...

Dr. Chuck MusfeldtOur close friend and long-time board member of Joni and Friends, Dr. Chuck Musfeldt, recently lost his life in a tragic automobile accident in San Antonio. Chuck was returning home from church after a deacon’s meeting when his car was struck by a city bus that failed to stop at a red light. Chuck and his wife Linda became involved with our ministry in the early 1990’s when they served on the local board of Joni and Friends Chicago...

Doug Mazza Reports from Haiti with Wheels for the World...

Since we arrived on Saturday nearly 400 children have died of malnutrition. And that doesn't count cholera, infection and other disease. The population of Port au Prince has an unemployment rate of 90%. The disabled have it worse. It makes me think how blessed Ryan, my own disabled son back in the States, is. But here in Haiti, there are no residential facilities like Ryan lives in; no regional centers run by the county. Just an incredible will to survive.

Doug Mazza helping fit a boy with a wheelchairYesterday a little boy came with his parents, a handsome Creole couple. Their son had been hit by a truck and had broken both legs. One leg, broken in three places. The doctor didn't have enough plaster to make two casts. So the right leg was cast up to the hip; the other... just bandaged with gauze. The family was told to come back after the leg healed...

On Friday, February 18, Joni and Friends president, Doug Mazza, leaves for Haiti with our Wheels for the World team – please be praying for the safety of the Wheels team as they travel to and minister in Port-au-Prince and surrounding villages. We’ll be serving the many people with disabilities in the region over five days of outreach. On Sunday, February 20, Doug will be speaking at the Eglise Chretien de Delmas church, encouraging the congregation to embrace the many Haitians now dealing with significant disabilities as a result of last year's earthquake. We are honored that Joni and Friends helped build the completely accessible worship center at Eglise Chretien de Delmas, all to American standards to make certain it’s not only accessible, but safe!

As Ken drove me to Joni and Friends this morning, our van became a sanctuary of praise-full song – “We’re Marching to Zion” was the hymn on my heart, and I sang it vigorously! I have to on days like this… days when my hip and lower back cramp in pain. It's my way of chasing away any dark, discouraging spirit bent on 'taking me out of the battle.' A difficult day like this is also a chance to 'testify' to the spirit world that, come hell or high water, I choose to cleave to the cross, hang onto the Spirit, and grab hold of the grace of my Savior.
