5 Ways to Serve Others this Christmas

Do you know people who are in need this holiday season? Maybe it’s a friend stuck at home with the flu, or an elderly neighbor in need of assistance. Or maybe it’s a mother with a child affected by disability, or a homeless couple with nowhere to stay. Whatever the need, we encourage you to take this opportunity to give yourself in service. Because the Lord instructs us in Galatians 6:2 to “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” And to help you do that, we’ve compiled a list of five ways you can serve someone else this holiday season.

  1. Take a meal to a sick neighbor. Prepare a meal you think your neighbor will appreciate – it could be as simple as a can of soup or as involved as a roast turkey!
  2. Visit a friend in a rehabilitation center. Your visit will refresh your friend. If you don’t know anyone currently in rehabilitation center, consider volunteering at a center near you.
  3. Help someone put up their Christmas decorations. Some people don’t have the time, energy, or ability to decorate their house for the holidays. Visit a neighbor or friend and ask what you can do to help them prepare for the holiday season.
  4. Help at a local soup kitchen. Get familiar with the local soup kitchen and inquire how you may be of service there. It could be anything from sorting donations, preparing food in the kitchen, or serving meals to men, women, and children in need.
  5. Shovel the snow off your elderly neighbor’s driveway. If your elderly neighbor doesn’t have the strength to clear their driveway of snow, set aside some time during the week to help them out. You could even bring them a mug of hot cocoa!

Can you think of any other ways you can lend a hand to someone in need this Christmas? Be sure to leave your ideas in the comments below!
