Dianne and Michelle serving with Wheels for the WorldYour life leads by example. Your passion for Christ is contagious. At Joni and Friends, young leaders are following in your footsteps and living the adventure of serving Jesus Christ! Several times a year, physical therapist Dianne Sanker happily rolls up her sleeves to join a Wheels for the World outreach. Wheels for the World is all about offering people with disabilities and their families the gift of salvation,” says Dianne. “A wheelchair is an earthly solution and comfort – but it can’t compare to the gift of eternal life!” Dianne’s daughter Michelle sees her mom’s joy increasing with every trip. “There’s new life and excitement inside of her that’s noticeable to everyone – she got me curious!” explains Michelle. “Seeing my mom willing to use her vacation time to work hard and serve others with Joni and Friends was contagious.” So Michelle jumped into the adventure of serving God on a Wheels outreach to Thailand, where she worked as her mom’s assistant through long, hot, joy-filled days. Side by side, they shared the love of Jesus freely with hundreds, comforting hearts and physical bodies...

Family at RetreatBecause you stand strong for families, a week at Family Retreat leaves parents, kids of every age, and volunteers with one thing to say: It changed my life! Meet one special needs family, and their Short Term Missionary Zach, and find out why... Dad Steven has discovered that God can use his disabled son and daughter to touch lives. “My daughter Katie doesn’t even speak. But at Family Retreat we see the tremendous impact she has had in the lives of her STMs each year. We see that God has given Katie a way of turning hearts to Him.” Mom Mary Ann is a caretaker 24/7 for her daughter Katie, 22, and son Nicholas, 26. “Disability never ends. We are on the job day and night. At Family Retreat, someone else looks over our children for a few hours. We can take a breath. We can worship and not listen for our child's needs or worry. We're...

IFR ChinaI just finished reading the exciting reports from our recent International Family Retreat in Shenyang, China – 26 special-needs families were served by a dynamic group of Christian volunteers from the US and the People's Republic of China. This photo really captures the joy of these young people (notice their T-shirts; it's the same "Press On" theme we used at this summer's US Family Retreats). One US volunteer wrote, "Family Retreat in China is awesome! I can't wait to go back next year and help more!" Our efforts were supported by a local Chinese church who came alongside to provide help with evangelism, training, and logistics. We're thrilled that 4 mothers of disabled children accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior (and are being followed up by the Christian special-needs moms in the same local church). Picture yourself serving at one of our International Family Retreats in 2014… pray about it and get involved!

Kirk Cameron returns to movie theaters with UNSTOPPABLE, a new film that will be shown live on September 24 with a special second showing on October 3. In this movie, Kirk goes back to the beginning—literally—as he investigates the origins of good and evil and how they impact our lives … and our eternities. Kirk says: “One of the most asked questions by people is, ’Why does God allow bad things to happen to good people?’ When we tackle that question with our hearts as well as our heads, it challenges us to wrestle with everything we think we know about God. In UNSTOPPABLE, I take you on a personal visual journey into the depths of my faith, based on something that happened in my life. In UNSTOPPABLE, we discover not only is there an answer to this pivotal...

Philip Yancey's The Question That Never Goes AwayMy friend, Philip Yancey, has made the subject of suffering a lifetime quest, and I have been blessed immeasurably by his insights. He has just written a new book based on his visits to three places of great suffering: Japan and its tsunami, Sarajevo and its war, and Newtown, CT where children were gunned down in a massacre. Natural catastrophes and moral evil always foment tough questions about God, and Philip tackles them in "The Question That Never Goes Away." Today on September 11, a day when our nation remembers the pain of evil and suffering, Amazon.com is offering the electronic version for free. It's a dark and broken world looking for answers… I think you'll be blessed by the way Philip gently points the reader to the One who holds all the answers in his hand.

Marta and Maura hearing the gospelMaura hugging a Wheels for the World therapistFor 30 years, Marta has carried her sister, Maura, on her back after polio took away Maura’s ability to walk. They came for a wheelchair – a gift even the most loving sister could never provide. As they waited for it to be perfectly adjusted, Joni’s story was shared. Hearing of God’s promise to fill those who are weak with His strength, Maura and Marta both nodded vigorously, “Si, Si! Yes, we want this Jesus, too!” Right in the middle of the noisy Wheels for the World distribution, the sisters joined hands and prayed to receive Christ. When they lifted their heads, they were beaming. Tears of joy ran down their faces as the Savior’s love burst over them, washing away their sin, their doubts, and their fears. Rejoice! El Salvador (the Savior) has come!
