Intern serving at MMAWe love to see people picking up the cause to minister to individuals and families affected by disability in their churches and communities. And it’s always a delight to find a church or ministry that sees the impact that can be made by showering God’s love on those viewed as ‘the least of these.’ Jill’s House and McLean Bible church are two such warriors for the Gospel! Cause 4 Life Global Missions and Internships is honored to partner with both of these ministries in a new Ministry and Missions Academy on the East Coast. Located in Virginia, the Academy interns will have the chance to work alongside staff and volunteers at Jill’s House, providing care and respite for families affected by disability. Additionally, interns will have an opportunity to see an exemplary model of disability ministry at McLean Bible...

Intern holding an orphan in HaitiWhat comes to mind when you think of bootcamp? A lot of yelling… intense pain of aching muscles… sweat seeping into your clothes? Whatever the case, it’s not a pretty picture. So, why do it? Why cause your body so much pain? Because it is strength training, providing a jump start to a healthier lifestyle. Joni and Friends’ Ministry and Missions Bootcamp may not involve aching muscles, but it does call interns to stretch their faith and challenge what they believe it means to love others. This four week, intensive program trains interns in disability ministry, theology and practice, exposing them to the realities and the blessings that come with serving individuals and families affected by disability. Their faith will be tested during their trip to Haiti as they face the injustices of people affected by disability in a developing country. And along the way, God will break down their misconceptions revealing His love for the least of these. Join our team of interns in the Ministry and Missions Bootcamp for the summer of 2014, and expand your view...

The Story of Sarah: A Child Abandoned by Her Family

In developing countries, 97% of children with disabilities will suffer neglect and abuse. This is the story of little Sarah. Born with a disability, Sarah is unable to care for herself. What’s worse is that Sarah's parents do not have the heart to provide proper care for their daughter. Day after day, Sarah is locked in a garage, without food, water, or light. As her mother coldly put it, if she had someone to whom she could give Sarah—she would do it.

Friend, like Sarah there are thousands of children throughout the developing world who are abandoned and rejected by their families. The Bible commands us to be kind to the needy, to defend the cause of the poor, and to encourage the oppressed. It’s why our Cause 4 Life Global Missions and Internships ministry is reaching out to love and defend these children—and we invite you to join us. Take action today by watching this short video about Sarah and sharing it with others through Facebook or email. And if you’re interested in interning with us through Cause 4 Life, click here.

Amy Greeb at International Family RetreatWhen STMs sign up to volunteer at a Joni and Friends Family Retreat, they often expect to encourage a family affected by disability. But as they serve, STMs are often just as blessed as the people they hope to encourage. Amy Greeb shares her experience at International Family Retreat in Guatemala... "I am so thankful for the experience I received serving in Guatemala at Family Retreat. I was expecting to go and “help God out” by encouraging families affected by disability, but once I was there, I realized I can’t do anything without Him. When I desperately needed God to help me with...

Jordani learning to use his walkerJordani in his wheelchair from Wheels for the World
“I want Jordani to walk...” whispered his mother, Maribel, as our Wheels for the World volunteers in the Dominican Republic listened. Little Jordani is 6 years old and sustained a brain injury that left him partially paralyzed. “Is there any hope for my son?” she asked. Because Joni and Friends volunteer teams include professional physical therapists, Maribel was able to receive the answer to her question. A walker was brought out and Jordani took his first shaky steps. It was hard work and he tired quickly. But...
