Kim and Javier ready to go swimming at Joni and Friends Family RetreatAt Family Retreat, families come in all shapes and sizes. Kim Skethway is a single mom. Her 15 year old son, Javier, has cerebral palsy. “We live in a world that doesn’t understand our needs,” says Kim. But at Joni and Friends’ Family Retreat, they find the strength and understanding that they need. Kim and Javier have been coming to Family Retreat for 10 years and their faith has grown stronger every year. “Family Retreat is an important part of our Christian growth,” Kim explains. “Every year we take a giant step forward in our walk with Christ. The worship, the fellowship and the messages from God’s word stay in our hearts all year. In this video, Chuck Colson invites you to join in celebrating this year's Wilberforce Award winner.

Joni Eareckson Tada will be honored with the prestigious Wilberforce Award during the annual Wilberforce Weekend held March 30-April 1 in Lansdowne, Va. The award is named for William Wilberforce, the British parliamentarian who fought for 26 years to abolish slavery in Great Britain, finally succeeding with the passage of the Slave Trade Act in 1807. Chuck Colson, who hosts the BreakPoint radio program, said Tada was selected for the award because she -- like Wilberforce -- has persevered and sacrificed to fight social injustice and to transform culture. "She is a defiant, inspirational, joy-filled rebuttal to those who would assault the sanctity of human life," Colson said. Presented by the Board of Directors of Breakpoint/The Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview, the award honors those who share Wilberforce's passions and principles:

  • Making a significant impact on the social ills of the day through personal effort, skill, and influence;

  • Showing perseverance and selflessness in combating injustice, even to the point of willingness to sacrifice personal comfort, career and reputation;

  • Making positive change in the values and character of society -- "reforming manners ...

a boy in ghana sitting in his new wheelchairIn developing nations like Ghana, West Africa, little children with disabilities are outcast… denied the opportunities other children enjoy. Kennedy was abandoned by his father when he was born with cerebral palsy. Yet his mother Angelica held onto her faith in Jesus Christ to provide all they need. Like any mother, she has worried about her son’s future. Will he be able to go to school? Will he learn and grow? How will she carry him all the days of his life? But God’s unfailing kindness, shown through you, has answered the cries of Angelica’s heart. On a recent Wheels for the World outreach to Ghana, Kennedy received his first wheelchair – and not just any wheelchair! A one of a kind, pediatric wheelchair uniquely prepared for him by our therapists. Sitting up in his bright blue wheelchair, God’s plan began to unfold for Kennedy. “He will go to school now!” Angelica cried. “And I can push him to church where we will both learn more about God! Today God has provided for us! You are truly the friends of God and the...
