May 5th and the National Day of Prayer is right around the corner, and it’s time to get your church or community organization involved. Join the more than 2 million Americans across the nation who will be gathering that day to lift the needs of their local government and the nation before the Lord. “Our country is in desperate need of prayer,” says Joni, Honorary Chair of the 2011 NDP, “and God is looking for people to pray for revival and renewal in our land.” We invite you to get a head-start on the prayer effort by posting your prayer for our nation today on the Joni and Friends’ blog!

Begin planning now for a National Day of Prayer gathering in your own town. Check out these resources to help you get started. And don’t forget to visit our NDP page on the Joni and Friends’ website for ideas on including people with disabilities. This week the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association announced the finalists for the 2011 Christian Book Awards. Out of 226 entries of books and Bibles published in the past year, five finalists in six categories were chosen to represent Christian publishing's finest books and Bibles for 2011. Joni and Friends, whose vision is to accelerate Christian ministry in the disability community, has received a “4 Star” designation from Charity Navigator in recognition of sound fiscal management. Charity Navigator is a major charity evaluator in the U.S., and serves as a key resource to donors in search of essential information they need to in order to make their charitable giving decisions.

“We are pleased once again to receive such a vote of confidence from Charity Navigator, which we know many of our donors and potential donors look to for this type of information,” said Joni and Friends President and COO Doug Mazza. “While our focus remains on ministry, we recognize we can’t do that ministry without funding, so we appreciate Charity Navigator’s designation, assuring our donors that we are being good stewards of the funds with which we are entrusted.”

The recent disasters, however, may well open up unprecedented opportunities for God's people to proclaim the love of Christ, as well as portray His love through acts of mercy. This could well launch in Japan a second wave of missionary outreach, much like what occurred after WWII. Join Christians around the globe as together we pray…

In Memory of Dr. Chuck Musfeldt...

Dr. Chuck MusfeldtOur close friend and long-time board member of Joni and Friends, Dr. Chuck Musfeldt, recently lost his life in a tragic automobile accident in San Antonio. Chuck was returning home from church after a deacon’s meeting when his car was struck by a city bus that failed to stop at a red light. Chuck and his wife Linda became involved with our ministry in the early 1990’s when they served on the local board of Joni and Friends Chicago...
