1) Who should take the Beyond Suffering course?
Beyond Suffering is for students, pastors, teachers, counselors, therapists, ministry leaders and volunteers. It’s for parents, siblings, family members and anyone who wants to gain a deeper understanding of people affected by disabilities and learn how to share God’s love with them. The course addresses hard questions concerning the problems of evil and suffering and misconceptions about healing, providing answers rooted in God’s Word.
2) What makes Beyond Suffering unique?
It is one of the few curriculums solely focused on the different aspects of disability ministry from a biblical and evangelical perspective. In the study guide students learn from well researched and practical papers written by qualified experts in various fields of disability ministry. The great truths of these lessons are enriched by the inspiring video case studies in the leader’s guide which includes everything that teachers need to successfully host a Beyond Suffering course.
3) What are the different enrollment options?
There are currently several enrollment options. People interested in studying Beyond Suffering at their own pace are welcome to purchase the curriculum. Others may prefer to host a small group study in their church or organization. However, to receive the full impact of the course, we recommend taking a course taught by a certified teacher and receiving a Certificate of Completion from the Christian Institute on Disability. Students enrolled at this level must also complete reading and writing assignments. These certificate level courses are offered at various Joni and Friends Field Ministry locations throughout the country.
Beyond Suffering is offered for undergraduate, graduate and continuing education units. Please check the website for information on accrediting institutions.
4) Where can I purchase Beyond Suffering?
The Beyond Suffering Study Guide and Leader’s Guide are available for purchase at the Joni and Friends web store and from any of the Joni and Friends Field Ministry offices. The Beyond Suffering certificate course costs $229.00, which includes all of the materials. There are additional charges for educational units when students are enrolled in the course for college credit, which is transferrable in most cases.
